Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
Goal 12 aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Sustainable consumption and production has been defined as “the use of services and related products which respond to basic needs and bring a better quality of life, while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as the emission of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations” (Oslo Symposium 1994). Goal 12 on Sustainable consumption and production is about promoting efficient use of natural resource, energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure. It involves engaging consumers through awareness-raising and education on sustainable consumption and reducing waste. There are 11 targets in Goal 12 to measure the sustainable consumption and production patterns. A total of 8 indicators have been identified in State Indicator Framework to measure and monitor the progress of these targets.
